Washington State Democrats - Caucuses and Conventions
Washington State’s delegate selection process began with precinct caucuses on Saturday, March 26, 2016. The precinct caucuses are your chance to help select the Democratic Presidential nominee. Voters support their candidate of choice, with each candidate being awarded the proportion of delegates that corresponds with their percentage of support.
Anybody can participate, although voting is limited to registered voters who consider themselves Democrats and to persons seventeen years of age who will be eligible to vote on or before November 8, 2016. Those who wish to participate but who are not currently registered to vote may register to vote at the caucus and then participate on the same day. You must also publicly declare your Democratic Party preference and have that preference publicly recorded.
Precinct Caucuses will take place at four locations throughout Pacific County. Refer to the Precinct Caucus Assignments list on the right to find your location. To identify which precinct you reside in visit the Pacific County Voter Precinct Atlas.
Proxy voting is not permitted at Precinct Caucuses. However, those who are unable to attend due to "religious observance, military service, disability, illness, or work schedule" will be able to vote by submitting a surrogate affidavit form no later than March 18th at 5:00 p.m. to the State Party. Several actions will take place at the Congressional District Caucuses that are key to nominating and electing our next president. At each Congressional District Caucus, Congressional District Delegates will elect a slate of National Convention Delegates to attend the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on July 25th – 28th. In order to run for one of these positions you must have turned in a Statement of Candidacy to the State Party by Friday, May 6th, 2016 at 5:00 PM. Lists of those individual from who we have received Statements of Candidacy is located at http://www.wa-democrats.org/nationalconvention. Anyone who did not file by the deadline can still file to run for an At-Large National Delegate position (which will be elected at the State Convention on June 19th.) A table listing the number of delegates to be elected in each CD is included in the attached document.
In addition, each Congressional District Caucus will elect one presidential elector and one alternate. If the Democratic presidential nominee wins Washington State, the electors will meet in Olympia in mid-December to cast Washington’s votes in the Electoral College. You do not need to turn in a declaration of candidacy to run for one of these positions; electors are nominated in-person at the caucus.
